How Lacrifill Works

Every time you blink, tears spread across the surface of the eye to keep it smooth, comfortable, and protected. Normally, those tears drain away through tiny openings near the inner corner of the eyelids, called puncta, and travel through small channels, the canaliculi, before reaching the nose.

In dry eye patients, this drainage often happens too quickly, leaving the eye's surface under-lubricated and prone to burning, grittiness, and fluctuating vision. Lacrifill addresses this at the source: once placed, the soft gel creates an internal blockage that slows tear drainage, allowing more of the eye's own natural tears to stay on the surface where they're needed. Made from a substance already found in the body, it's designed to be gentle and well-tolerated, and it gradually breaks down on its own over time.
